Arts District Activities During Art on Harrison
Art Gecko - 19 HARRISON - Enjoy “THE END,” a mail art exhibit commemorating the 4oth anniversary of the breakup of The Beatles. This Beatles-themed group show includes generously donated artwork sent through the postal system and will be on display as a silent auction through 9/18. Stop by to place your bid on some Fab Four art to benefit our four-legged friends. All proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to the Animal Care League of Oak Park.
Bead in Hand - 145 HARRISON - On Friday from 6-10 PM and Saturday from 12-5 PM, come to Bead in Hand and turn a broken piece of pottery into a new piece of jewelry. Wrap the piece with wire and beads and it becomes a pendant, hang it on a cord and it becomes a necklace! $5 per pendant with cord. Bring your own broken pottery (save it from the trash!) or we will have plenty to choose from.
Brown Elephant - 217 HARRISON - Wander in to the coolest resale shop in town. Check out our new layout, and look for exciting sales! The revenue generated by donations and purchases at the Brown Elephant Shops help fund services for the more than 50% of Howard Brown clients who are under- or uninsured.
Buzz Café - 905 S. LOMBARD - Join in the annual chair painting ritual at the Buzz. The chairs and paint are provided. All you have to do is bring your creativity. The chairs will be used in Buzz Café throughout the year. Painting will be happening between 12-5 PM on Saturday in the Buzz courtyard. All ages welcome.
Creative Changes - 140 HARRISON - We will host a special show of multi-media fine art created by our Process Painting community. We are featuring the works of Asterie Michell, Colleen Shannon, Kris Cromwell, Terry Mueller, Christopher Wallace, Cynthia Conte, Melinda Deuster and Donna Lee Preston.

Eastgate Café - 102 HARRISON - Jewelry artist Sofija Zeljic will be showcasing her striking pieces made from hammered copper, sterling and gold. See her work Friday 6-10 PM, Saturday 12-8 PM or Sunday 12-6 PM. Eastgate will have very special meal for Art on Harrison - it will be “Taste of Balkan in Oak Park.” On Saturday night, enjoy live entertainment under the stars.
Gallery Pink - 149 HARRISON - Join us for the an artists’ reception for “3 LENSES/3 PHOTOGRAPHERS.” Faigie Tanner, John Padour and Bob Tanner will all be exhibiting their work from September 11-October 4. The show’s opening reception will be on Friday from 5-8 PM and Saturday from 1-5 PM.

Prodigy Glassworks - 207 HARRISON - Stop in all weekend for glass blowing demonstrations. Check out our August Kids’ Art Camp installation: “Mix and Match People.” The installation is on display at Prodigy Glassworks and at Trattoria 225.

Ridge Art - 21 HARRISON - Join us for the opening of the show “WORKING PAPERS: Mixed Media in Paper by Three Artists,” which will run from September 11 - December 27, 2009. The showfeatures papier mâché sculpture, masks, collage and paper construction by Janice Elkins, Oak Park, Illinois, Levoy Exil, Petionville, Haiti, and Ronald Mevs, Jacmel, Haiti. The opening reception is Friday, September 11, 6-10 PM, and we will also be open on Saturday from noon-8 PM.
Right-Brained Studio, the Art of Creative Thinking! - 140 HARRISON - Come celebrate our 2-year anniversary at Right-Brained Studio with “What Will We Think of Next?”, an art show featuring the work of youth artists who participated in the 2009 summer session! The opening reception takes place on Friday, September 11, from 6-8pm. Also, youth art mentor, Mindy Fisher, will be creating funky fun portraits for $10, we’ll be auctioning off a rain barrel designed by Naomi Martinez and Right-Brained Studio youth artists (proceeds go to Hephzibah Children’s Association) and exhibiting the “Taylor Family Art Show” on our Featured Artist’s Wall.
Studio Light - 27G HARRISON - Truthseeker sculptural paintings are on sale! Stop in and be inspired. Digitally collaged posters and cards are also available and make great gifts to others or to yourself. On Saturday, there will be live music and a belly dance performance outside of the studio as well as a coloring table for kids and adults alike!
Whispers from the Moon - 235 HARRISON - Join us for a 5-year anniversary open house celebration at the Studio on Saturday from 12 to 8 PM. In addition to light refreshments, activities that day will include two bodyBUZZ sessions (pre-registration required) and a community mural project.

Val’s halla - 239 HARRISON - On Friday night 7:00 pm, join us for a CD-release party for THE SHAMS BAND, four Oak Park guys who are beginning to make quite a mark. With their catchy hooks and a do-it-yourself attitude, the four-piece band is quickly becoming a main stay in the Chicago music scene.
