Artist Exhibitors on Harrison Street 9/12 - 12-6 PM

Submitted by libbey_paul on Friday, 28 August 2009

We have a diverse array of visiting artists for Art on Harrison.  See them on the street on Saturday, 9/12, from 12-6 PM.  Sample a slide show showing some of their work.

  • Alex Smith - Acrylic paintings of female figures, with a colorful and mysterious air on recycled cardboard pieces, and found items. Also creates bracelets and hemp chokers with found and new glass, wood, etc. beads.
  • Almas Gitanas - Multi-faceted artist passionate about creating wearable art unlike any others. Focused on making jewelry not just as an accessory but a piece of art.
  • AlterationEgo/Heather Barstow - Ego friendly purses utilizing found objects and reused zippers and relics found to create a beautiful purse. I also recycle beer caps to create one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces that combine images with acrylic and semi-precious beads.
  • Ashieka E Photography - My goal is to use photography to capture the human spirit with a creative edge.
  • Atomic Kitchens & Gardens - My mother made sure my sisters and I knew how to sew. I would make a pillow or costume here and there. I decided to make aprons for my daughters to play kitchen and cook with me and have continued sewing ever since. I enjoy the hunt for fun or vintage fabrics and finding uses for all the accumulated scraps.
  • Bead of a Different Drum - One-of-a-kind jewelry made from recycled items: vintage typewriter keys, antique hardware, watch parts, maps, etc.
  • Beads of Hope Africa - Handmade jewelry made from recycled materials created from women in Uganda - a fair trade company that supports a women’s bead cooperative.
  • Bryn Reese Fine China - Dedicated to reviving the art of the table with innovative porcelain of the highest quality.  Bryn’s Asian Modern dinnerware patterns represent a reemergence of ancient dragon and labyrinth motifs expressed in  modern celadon, stunning red, and mica gold.  Bryn collaborates with Zina Castañuela, also exhibiting at Art on Harrison,  to create these complimentary signature patterns - Journey, Prosperity and Abundance - which are prepared for transfer to American porcelain for firing and finishing.
  • Dawning Soleil Designs by Fajah - 100% handcrafted jewelry and crafts.  The jewelry collections are made from various semi-precious stones and glass beads.  The handmade crafts – paperweight collections – are made from acrylic and stones as well as glass containers.
  • Elements by Lori - Reversible wrap skirts and ‘cinderella’ dresses are made with recycled silk saris and imported from India.  Each skirt is unique and can be worn multiple ways. Both are one size fits all. Complement your look with jewelry inspired by the beauty and wonders of this world.  Using semi-precious stones, glass beads and recycled wood, these pieces are fun, classy and can be worn everyday!  Custom name necklaces are very popular!
  • l1060578_displayHaute Jewelry - Hand crafted jewelry, created with semi-precious stones, sterling and 14k gold filled wire.
  • Heath Hays - Specializing in photography that explores Urban Ruin and forgotten places.
  • Jamie Pool - I am a jewelry artisan, mostly working with polymer clay. Visit my portfolio.
  • Jennifer Tiner with Pieces by Olivia - We make mosaics on recycled wood boards or framed boxes or other “found” materials out of recycled bottle caps and buttons.  We also embelish old t-shirts with buttons or other scrap fabrics.  Clothes are for all ages!
  • Jorge Golgo Quintero - I photograph to celebrate existence. I like being a part of now. I hate to outlast myself in the wrong places. I like to see photography as an exploration of awareness - the point of consciousness experienced in a particular time and place.jorge-god-is-good1
  • Julian Cottrell - Painter of abstract acrylic painting on various canvas sizes.
  • K.S. Krueger and the World of Traegonia - A new book by K.S.Krueger, which draws on the mysteries and wonder of Nature, raising the question… do they exist? Based on sculptures by Dino C. Crisanti.
  • Melissa Simo - Melissa Simo is a dancer, bodyworker, and artist interested in the simple beauty found in nature and life often associated with cycles.
  • Mimsies Whimsies, div. of OnPurpose Inc. - Mixed media artist, vintage inspired, poet/writer. Create art doll kits, inspirational canvas and creations.
  • Move the Needle - Creates handcrafted paper crafts such as journals and greeting cards.
  • Peter Thaddeus - I paint custom acrylic paintings and murals, using bold colors and contrast.  My scope of work includes paintings, giclees, murals, miniature paintings, hand painted ornaments and much more.  I have been painting professionally for 10 years, and I am based in the Chicago suburbs.
  • “Pops” Casey - Blends three talents - his artist’s eye, his mastery of wood skills and his love of old things - to create his special work, the Tramp Art Style of Folk Art.tom-hill-2
  • Pottery by Tom Hill - Functional Pottery: Cups, Mugs, Vases, Bowls, Plates, Platters, Teapots and more…

  • Steven Bukowski - Abstract acrylic paintings touched with handmade and recycled paper.
  • Stinkin’ Cuties - 100% hand-stitched cuties crafted from orphan socks, missing buttons, and other cast-off materials. Made with love in the traditions of American folk-arts sock monkeys and Japanese handicraft.
  • Supie Dunbar - I create blank greeting cards using an image transfer process.
  • Thomas Sexton - I paint in oils and acrylics, and capture whatever inspires me at the moment.
  • Zina Castanuela - I handmake paper using natural plant fibers.    Blending textures of images and text with the handmade paper, I create narrative books and sculptures.zina-castaneula_whatyousee4
