Woman in Love - No. 17

River Forest artist Laura Myntti unveils a body of new work titled

“WOMEN IN LOVE”

At Expressions Graphics

29 West Harrison, Oak Park, Illinois

from June 5th – July 5th  2009

A reception for the Artist will be held on      June 19th from 6-8:30pm

This show has traveled from L’Association Pour L’Estampe et L’Art in Paris, France, where  the exhibition ran April 3 through 13th (49 bis Rue des Cascades, 75002 Paris, 01 47 97 05 35).

Woman in Love - No. 8About the show

Recent discoveries have compelled Myntti to make this body of etchings.  The focus of the subject matter was found as she stumbled upon a vast box of old black and white photographs from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.  The people in these photos had a humanity and anonymity which was beautiful, instantly fascinating and real.  As a woman making art wary of the general sexed up  objectification of humans and women in the media~ Myntti found it refreshing to think about images of women and humans in a non ironic way, nor sexually humiliated, as much of contemporary figurative art has been.   She found the spaces habituated in the old photographs not the typical objectification but an understanding of a desirable, honest reality.  Women in Love.

In general Myntti prints with French and sometimes Italian paper and prefers to use copper over zinc with ferric chloride as the biting agent.

About the artist

Myntti has exhibited her work internationally for more than 20 years.  Her work can be found in the permanent collections of numerous museums and institutions such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Mexican Fine Art Museum in Chicago and the New York Public Library to name a few. Myntti studied at the Sorbonne in Paris after graduating with a BFA from the University of Idaho.
