Children’s Summer Art Camps

Summer Art Camp - 2010


Two Week Art Camp In  August -  Space Is Still Available!   Morning Only, Afternoon Only or All-Day Options!

Two Age Groups -  5-7 years and 8-11 years

August 9-20, 2010
Mornings 9:00 AM –11:45 AM    Afternoons 12:30 –3:15 PM    All-Day 9:00 AM - 3:15 PM

Enroll your children in the Oak Park Arts District’s Summer Art Camp and give them the opportunity to expand their art skills with professional artists through dance and movement, mixed-media, glasswork, beading, painting, culinary arts, fiber arts, print-making, yoga and more.   Children will rotate between a variety of studio/galleries for a fun and creative experience.

Our adult artist/teachers will escort the student between studio locations and the all day campers will have a supervised lunch break.  A daily schedule with drop-off and pick-up locations will be emailed to you a couple of weeks prior to the start of camp.  Please indicate in the special comments section of the enrollment form if there is a friend or sibling in the same age group that your child would like to be with during the camp.  We will make every effort to accommodate your request.  Please note any allergy or activity restrictions as well.

July Art Camps - 2010!

Dance and Costume Camp 2010- Two Age Groups -  5-7 years and 8-11 years

July 19th thru 23rd, 2010  9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Intuit Dance and Pamela Penney Textile Arts are joining forces to offer this fun and creative performing arts experience. Monday thru Thursday students will spend half of the morning at the studio of Pamela Penney where they will design, dye, stitch and embellish their own dance costume. The other half of the morning they will spend with Diane VanDerhei at Intuit Dance learning dance, music and choreography instruction. On Friday morning they will put it all together for a special performance for the family and friends in the Intuit Dance Studio.  Register HERE.

“Re-Cycle, Up-Cycle and Salvage” Multi-Media Arts Camp- Ages 5 to 11 years.

PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE!  July 26th thru 30th, 2010  9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Using salvaged and reclaimed fabrics and materials students will create mixed-media art and ‘art to wear’ with artists Jennifer Tiner and Pamela Penney. There is an Art to being Green and this camp will give children opportunity and skills to creatively re-use materials thought previously to be garbage and create beautiful works of art.  Register HERE.

Adventures In Green Living- Ages 5-11 years.

July 19th thru 23rd, 2010  9:00 am to 12:00 pm

This class will take kids on an urban art adventure! During the week we will make recycled sketchbooks, take a nature walk, learn to paint what we see, make green art and materials to bring home!!!!! At the end of the week parents are encouraged to attend the Green Living Art Show, the kids will learn how to curate their own show, it will be during the last half of class on Friday!!!!  Register HERE.

Photography 101 - Ages 12 years & up.

July 20th, 24th, 27th & 31st 2010 (Tuesdays and Saturdays) 9:00 am- 11:00 am

Learn how to create beautiful art and self expression through photography.  In this class, you will learn the basics of operating a digital camera, including working with the settings to create just the look you want.  You will also develop an eye for what turns a good photo into a great one.  Learn about light and rules of composition.  This class is technical and experiential and you will leave with knowledge and some great art.

You must own or have use of a digital camera for this class.

This Camp will be located at Creative Changes Studio at 140 Harrison Street and taught by Christopher Wallace who has a BFA in Photography from Washington University, St. Louis.  Christopher has been an educator for over 20 years and specializes in Fine Arts and Bicycle Education.  Register HERE

All You Need Is Art!  Mixed Media Art Camp! Ages 5-11 years.

Using Beatles song lyrics as inspiration, this week long camp will paint, draw and create. With a little help from Val’s Halla, we will learn about the fab four’s first concert here in Chicago, at the old Cominsky Park. The camp will conclude Magical Mystery Art Party on July 23rd.   Parents will be invited to attend.  Register HERE

The Wright 3 Art Camp - Ages 7 - 13 years.

July 26th thru 30th, 2010  12:30 pm to 3:00 pm

The Wright 3 is a children’s novel written by Blue Balliett and illustrated by Brett Helquist, published in 2006. It is the sequel to the children’s novel Chasing Vermeer. The underlying plot elements include 3-D pentominoes, Frank Lloyd Wright, the Robie House, Fibonacci numbers, The Invisible Man and mysterious occurrences. (from Wikipedia). We will be using this book as an inspiration for, creating art, solving puzzles and going on an adventure to Frank Lloyd Wright house here in Oak Park!  Register HERE

All You Need Is Art Camp and The Wright 3 Art Camp will be located at Whisper From The Moon, 235 Harrison Street and will be taught by Ellen Gradman, an artist, educator, thinker and catalyst for creative experiences. She encourages everyone to join the journey and will be igniting the SPARK of creativity in each child in a fun and unique format.
