aoh-09-postcard-side1The Dates:  Friday, September 11, from 6-10 PM, and Saturday, September 12, from 12-8 PM.

The Location:  Art on Harrison is an annual fall arts festival sponsored by the Oak Park Arts District in Oak Park, IL.  It includes 9 blocks of galleries, restaurants, and one-of-a-kind boutiques and services.  Located on Harrison Street in the nine blocks west of Austin, OPAD is readily accessible to the Austin stop on the Blue Line train, and is just off I-290.

Bike Friendly: We encourage attendees to ride their bike to Art on Harrison!  The first 200 people to show their bike at the OPAD tent will receive a gift bag!  And then decorate your bike with Wonder Works.

The Event:  Our theme this year is “Oak Park Trash - The Art of Being Green.”  We will have a range of art and creative activities that will inspire you!

Arts Festival

  • Outside:  We will be hosting a diverse array of visiting artists on Harrison Street on Saturday from 12-6 PM.  Many use recycled or found materials in their art or otherwise advancing an earth-friendly perspective.  See the list of guest artists participating.
  • Inside:  Our art galleries and specialty shops have many creative events planned, including special artist receptions, hands-on workshops, glass-blowing demonstrations, and live acoustic music.  Find one-of-a-kind art, jewelry, clothing, and unique gifts.  Many of these great pieces will be on sale!  Our beauty and wellness practitioners will be sampling their services, and visitors can eat at one of the five great restaurants on the street, with something for every taste.  Families with children will delight in the the activities planned for our budding artists.  Click here for a sampling of what’s going on in Arts District businesses.

Entertainment

We’re closing off Harrison Street between Lombard and Highland.  Join us there for live entertainment, art activities, green education and more!  We’ve got family-friendly activities like  art projects and a “Find the Flower” scavenger hunt.  We’ll have “green” guests like I-GO car sharing, Green Home Experts and Whole Foods, as well as some Oak Park schools creatively educating families about how to be green at the “Zero-Waste Education Station.”

Enjoy live music and dance at our tent sponsored by House of Heat from 12-8 PM on Saturday.

Rain Barrel Auction

The Harrison Street businesses will auction off ten of the rain barrels that were unveiled earlier in the year on Earth Day as a part of the “Roll out the Rain Barrels” project in Oak Park and River Forest.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit OPAD, helping us to fund community arts events. Identify your favorite and do your part for local water conservation!  Learn more about the rain barrels.

Thank you to our sponsors:  House of Heat, Stillwater Creative Group, Whole Foods, Wednesday Journal, Green Home Experts, Forest Park National Bank, Good Earth, Carma Productions Worldwide, Buzz Café, and Majamas Boutique.
