Bring Your Family to What’s Blooming!

Find the Frog Scavenger Hunt

Looking for a fun-filled afternoon with your children?  Join us at What’s Blooming on Harrison for many family-friendly, hands-on activities on Saturday, May 16, from 12-8 PM.  You can start your day with brunch or lunch at Buzz Cafe, Trattoria 225 or Eastgate Cafe.  Then let the creative play begin!

  • “Find the Frog” Scavenger Hunt Throughout the District - 12-5 PM - Found any frogs lately? At What’s Blooming you will.  Yup.  Nine of them; maybe more. Find the frogs hidden throughout the district.  Each small frog is uniquely painted and has a planter.  Get a map and directions at Val’s halla Records (239 Harrison).  Find the all and get a prize and raffle entry!  The raffle items include the frogs themselves and gift certificates from Arts District businesses.
  • Re-THINK! Art Show - Right-Brained Studio - Admire youth-created work with recycled, repurposed and non-traditional art materials.
  • Fused Glass Workshop - Prodigy Glassworks - 12-4 PM - Make sun catchers, pendants or butterflies ($15 ea), or 6” plate or candle holder ($30 ea) - ages 5+.
  • Wind Chime Workshop - Bead in Hand - 12-5 PM - Create a wind chime using recycled materials - CDs, keys, nut and bolts ($5) - all ages.
  • Paint a Rain Barrel  - Calypso Moon Studio - 12-5 PM - Help us paint our rain barrel.  Children accompanied by an adult are welcome. 
  • Mini-Notebook Workshop Art Gecko - 1-4 PM - Bring 2 expired gift cards or non-activated promo credit cards to create a mini-notebook; some available on first come, first served basis ($2 ea) - all ages, <10 must be accompanied by adult.
  • “Pocket Posey Person” WorkshopPamela Penney Textile Arts - 1-4 PM - Create a “green friend” from re-used materials with its own special pocket home ($6 ea) - ages 5-9.
  • Family Sing-Along - 900 S Lombard - 2-3 PM - Join Amy Pappageorge from Musikgarten, Beth Sagal and the a cappella singing group from the Oak Park River Forest Children’s Chorus for a rousing sing-along.
  • Pot Painting & Plant SaleExpression Graphics - 2-6 PM - Join us in painting pots and purchase plants to grow your garden - all ages.
  • Family Dance JamIntuit Dance - 3:30-4:15 PM - Bring the family for a fun afternoon of dance, music and story time.
  • Glass Blowing DemonstrationProdigy Glassworks - Marvel at the molten glass being shaped into beautiful and unique forms by skilled artists.
